I have a modem Pantech PX-500 and it was bundled with the provider so it's called Mobi Fren.

When I use Windows, there are no problems with it because the driver's available for Mac, Win Xp and Win Vista/Win 7. But unfortunately no driver for linux.

So I was wondering whether I can use this modem with Linux or not.

After I installed Fedora 12 on my computer, I tried connecting the device to my computer and it worked without additional driver.

But then there's a new problem. I can't connect to the internet because I have to setup the username and password first. Mobi Fren offers 2 types of use. The first one is regular usage and the second one is unlimited usage and to make things complicated it has different username and if I want to use unlimited service then I have to inject the username and password directly into the modem.

I have Huawei E160 Modem and I use Telkomsel and XL as my provider for internet connection and it was more simple and in Fedora I can connect to the internet directly without setting up the username and password.

Now let's try setting Mobi Fren in Fedora, I open Network Connection setting on Fedora and I choose Broadband.

Just enter your dial up no in this case #777 with username and password. Then save the setting.

On the Fedora Desktop, at the top right corner, find Network Icon and left klik then choose Broadband

Voila ... now you're connected to the Internet using Mobi Fren.

Unfortunately, if you disconnected and try to connect again you have to restart the Fedora first.

Let me know if you have solution for that :)
